Stradun Street

Stradun Street is the city's main boulevard, crossing through Dubrovnik from Pile Gate to Ploče Gate. Stradun is the best area for shopping, restaurants and enjoying a pleasant stroll at any hour of the day.

The Most Beautiful Street in Dubrovnik

Throughout Dubrovnik's history, one street has stood out above others: Stradun. Its original name in Croatia is Placa, and the avenue stretches across the walled city, connecting the two gates of Dubrovnik. It's also one of the most beautiful views from the city walls, from where you can really appreciate its magnitude and importance. All the other streets in the city lead to Stradun.

Stradun didn't go unnoticed by the producers of Game of Thrones. This avenue was chosen as the scene for Cersei's famous Walk of Atonement scene in the fifth installment of the hit series. Almost 500 extras were used during this scene.

During the Croatian War of Independence, Stradun was partially destroyed by the 1991 attacks. Today, you can still see the difference between the original flooring and where it has been replaced.

What to See in Stradun

Most of the city's monuments, restaurants and shops open up into Stradun. There's lots to see on the city's main street that's full of terraces where you can have a drink or eat at any time of the day. Stradun is also home to many shops that specialise in jewellery and souvenirs. Plus, it's full of ATMs where you can take out cash.

In Stradun, you can find many of Dubrovnik's iconic monuments. Along this avenue is Onofrio's Fountain, the Franciscan Friary, the Dominican Monastery, the entrance to the Walls of Dubrovnik, Sponza Palace, and the Church of St. Blaise to name a few.

Like the entire walled city, Stradun is totally pedestrianised. You'll only find small delivery vans first thing in the morning.

A Must-See

We believe that Stradun is a must-see in Dubrovnik, since you'll have to go down it at some point during your trip, and it's without a doubt the most beautiful street in the city. However, it's also the most expensive area in the city. If you're trying to eat on a budget, it's better to go down some side streets and find restaurants there.

Not to mention, in summer, Stradun is full of tourists which can become overwhelming at certain times of the day.
