Church of St. Ignatius
The Church of St. Ignatius is Dubrovnik's finest example of Baroque architecture. However, its beauty is overshadowed by the famous stairs of Game of Thrones' Walk of Atonement, a must-see for fans of the hit series.
Just a few metres from the Dubrovnik Cathedral is one of the most photographed monuments in Dubrovnik: the Church of St. Ignatius. This Jesuit church used to go almost unnoticed by visitors until the producers of Game of Thrones chose it to film the famous Walk of Atonement scene.
The stairs of the Church of Saint Ignatius were designed in 1738 by the Italian Pietro Passalacqua, who was inspired by the Spanish Steps in Rome. This staircase has become a site of pilgrimage for fans of the series, and it's common to see dozens of tourists taking pictures of themselves at the top of the stairs, imitating Cersei.
Inside the Church
The Church of St. Ignatius is the best example of Baroque architecture in Dubrovnik. The façade of this church, built in the 18th century, has recesses where sculptures of saints should have been, but they were lost during a shipwreck and were never replaced.
Inside the church, you'll see frescos that narrate the life of Saint Ignatius and a curious cave dedicated to the Virgin of Lourdes.
