The Old Port of Dubrovnik
From the gates of the Walled City, you'll find the Old Port of Dubrovnik, a reminder of the splendour of the Republic of Ragusa and the best place to enjoy a romantic evening stroll.
A Symbol of Ragusa
The Old Port of Dubrovnik or Stara Luka in Croatian has always been one of the city's iconic spots. During the 15th and 16th centuries, when the Republic of Ragusa kept their hold on business in the Mediterranean, hundreds of merchant boats would come and go from this very port.
At the end of the 20th century, the Old Port was one of the areas in the city that suffered the most during Croatia's War of Independence.
Things to Do in the Old Port
Today, Dubrovnik's Old Port is the most romantic spot in the city. During the day, terraces are filled with tourists, and boats leave from the port to the nearby island of Lokrum. You can also catch a ferry to the uninhabited island and spend the day at the beach or visit the botanical garden.
At night the port turns into a postcard-worthy scene, with restaurants by the sea, small fishing boats tied up and distant lights from the modern area of Dubrovnik.
Just a few metres away from the Old Port, you can find Dubrovnik's Aquarium, the Dominican Monastery and Polče Gate.
